AHVA

AHVA helps hundreds of physically, emotionally and sensorially challenged people to develop their skills and talents, and become contributing, independent members of their communities.

Now in the process of moving to a larger, improved facility, AHVA will soon be extending its services to a many more individuals with special needs, radically changing their day-to-day lives.

Since 1982, AHVA has given people with disabilities – emotional and physical – the skills they need to succeed in work, interpersonal relationships and independent living. Located in downtown Haifa, the AHVA center serves individuals from northern Israel and throughout the country. The vast majority of AHVA administrators, teachers and group leaders are themselves specially challenged.

AHVA offers the following key areas:

- Learning Center, Professional enrichment courses teach computer graphics and software.

- Employment, Graphics studio employs physically challenged people.

- Preparation for work places participants on a multi-staged track toward employment.

- Entrepreneurship, courses and programs that bring innovative ideas to the marketplace.

- In the Center for Independent Living ( C I L ), AHVA, together with Joint Israel, nurtures skills that allow physically challenged people to live on their own.
AHVA workshops, usually led by teachers with disabilities, address a wide range of topics, such as:

  • Relationships and sexuality
  • Art - as a hobby or a livelihood
  • Hebrew ulpan; courses taught in Russian for new immigrants

AHVA is a leading organization of giving a comprehensive solution in a single place, adapted to the majority of the needs of the thousands who approach us.

Among AHVA’s partners are Joint-Israel, Israel National Health Insurance, the Ministry of Welfare, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, RAFAEL, The Ted Arison Family Foundation and the Municipality of Haifa.

While AHVA is progressing with its move, a dire need for resources remains. Your donations will let us meet the needs of our entire target population. Help us enable greater numbers of physically challenged people to lead proud and productive lives – we are grateful for contributions of any size.
